Marketing Jobs Over $200K

End Feb '24 Edition

We are living in confusing times.

Contradictory economic gauges are telling different stories, standard leading indicators are in question, and markets appear to be prepping for both boom and bust.

To be fair, confusion should be the default state for anyone trying to predict where the economy or markets are heading.

Still, we remain cautiously optimistic about the US job market for marketing talent and it is backed by the massive amount of data our friends at Aspen Tech Labs are monitoring every single day.

  • As of today, there are 23,530 marketing roles in the US, representing a 9.6% quarterly increase.

  • 2,730 are senior marketing roles, up 5.4% vs. last quarter.

  • The median salary for senior marketing vacancies is $157,789.

Even though there is a slight decrease year-over-year (senior marketing roles down 6.4% YOY), we hope this recent pick-up in hiring continues to drive momentum in the job market.

Before we dive in, we’d like to thank those who joined our Livestream this morning. We do this every two weeks - curating and featuring top marketing jobs over $200K in the U.S.

The next session is on Friday, March 8th, at 11:30am EST. Grab your seat here and we will see you soon!

Vice President of Marketing at Benefit Cosmetics (LVMH)

  • Location: San Francisco, CA

  • Compensation: $210,000 - $280,000.

  • Posted: 2 weeks ago

LVMH currently lists 5,400 vacancies globally. The company has increased hiring quite significantly since the start of the year. The biggest number of vacancies are in the US and France. There are nine open positions for which LVMH is ready to pay more than $200K.

The median salary for VP of Marketing in the US is now at $199,992. The average pay for full-time positions in San Francisco currently is $99,986.

The numbers in the video above about Benefit Cosmetics tell the story of a challenged brand.

If we were hiring for this role, we’d be seeking work experience in turn-around situations and bold decision-making.

We’d prioritize someone who’s very in touch with the global beauty space and was able to direct budgets skillfully at the right audience.

For a candidate in an interview or application process, we’d highlight:

  • Delivering clear performance by building excitement in a brand;

  • Global experience and understanding of the different global consumer preferences or experience of applied insight;

  • Setting trends vs following them;

  • Fostering strong internal relationships

LVMH Beauty Division hires a lot of senior talent from P&G. P&G connections, recommenders or experience would be great to highlight.

SVP, Chief Marketing Officer - Health & Wellness at Synchrony

  • Location: Remote

  • Compensation: $240,000 – $410,000 + 40% Annual Incentive + 40% Annual Equity

  • Posted: 2 weeks ago

Synchrony currently has around 90 vacancies, an average number for this company over the past year. The median pay is around $147,000. There are also multiple VP positions open, and 15 of them are paid over $200,000.

The median pay for CMO positions in the US is currently at $217,495.

If we were to recruit for this role we’d be hunting talent from places Mastercard, Visa, or payment providers like Stripe, Paypal. We’d also look to newer credit-related businesses like Brex and Ripple which have experienced layoffs lately.

We also like the idea of hiring talent from big marketing roles in Pharma or Healthcare, who come with marketing transformation experience and board-level influencing skills.

When you apply, focus on your ability to influence executive opinion at the top-level, and raise funds for strategic programs. Highlight the relevance of your work with regulators - even more so if you are not from Finance. Emphasize abilities to navigate complex internal structures.

SVP, Marketing at at Metropolis

  • Location: Santa Monica, Seattle, Chicago, Nashville, or NYC

  • Compensation: $220,000 to $300,000

  • Posted: 3 weeks ago

Metropolis has increased hiring, listing 19 openings right now. The median pay is at $165,000. They also marketed a Director of Product Marketing position for which they are willing to pay up to $220,000. Most of their roles are high-paying software and data engineering jobs.

The median salary for VP of Marketing in the US is now at $199,992. The average pay for full-time positions in Santa Monica currently is $79,040. In Seattle, the median pay for full-time positions is $89,866, Chicago $74,786, Nashville $52,000, and NYC $89,991.

If we were hiring for this role, we’d be targeting people who have worked for hypergrowth companies. We’d look for people relevant to technologies in real estate, e.g. Matterport, Zillow, Redfin, Autodesk, and even Adobe (B2B2C).

If you are interviewing for this position, emphasize three things: advocacy for the voice of the customer, organizational influence, and your history of supporting, growing, and diversifying P&Ls.

SVP of Marketing at Steve Madden

  • Location: Long Island, NY

  • Compensation: $250,000 - $285,000

  • Posted: 3 weeks ago

Steve Madden currently has close to 700 open positions, an average volume of hiring for this brand. So it seems to be a pretty stable company. 44% of vacancies have salaries listed, and median pay is $36,400.

The most popular job titles at this company are sales manager, cashier, stocker, and store manager.

The median salary for VP of Marketing in the US is now at $199,992. Average pay for full-time positions in Santa Monica currently is $ 62,993.

To hire a marketing SVP for Steve Madden, we’d prioritize talent with experience in successful classic, iconic brands, esp. from luxury fashion (e.g., Louis Vuitton,), iconic footwear (e.g. Adidas), high-end retailers (e.g., Nordstrom), beauty brands (e.g., L’Oreal), jewelry and accessories (e.g., Signet.), heritage automotive (e.g., BMW), and tech companies known for brand loyalty (e.g., Apple). These sectors are known for strong brand management and marketing prowess.

We’d also look for people with chops in digital, as it’s a role for a modern marketer.

The person who previously held the role, Gabriella Weiser, was with the company for almost 18 years. So if you are a candidate for this position, highlight any experience stepping into big shoes: to inherit a role from someone who was in it for 18 years is very different from inheriting a role from someone who has been in it for 3.

Senior Director of Marketing Communications at Contentful

  • Location: New York, NY

  • Compensation: $235,000 - $258,000

  • Posted: 2 weeks ago

Contentful has 55 open positions - a significant increase in hiring since the start of the year. Only 20% of their job openings have salary transparency, however. These are mostly senior positions and median pay is around $216,000. There are quite a few senior marketing positions, especially director-level roles.

The median pay for director of marketing job openings in the US is currently $132,496, and in New York, the median salary for full-time jobs is $89,991.

If we were to recruit for this role, we’d look for a Communications Architect who brought structured strategic thinking to the job.

If you plan to apply for this role, focus on that communications architecture piece - applied frameworks, depth, and breadth.
