Marketing Jobs Over $200K
Ft. Mozilla, Meta, Whatnot, and Verkada
Ever thought about checking out a company’s recruiting history when you are considering an offer?
So much can be learned from a company’s job postings: the volume of postings, types of roles, geographic distribution, median salary, etc. From this data, you can easily understand how well the company is doing, its strategic focus, near-term plans, and even potential layoffs.
Take Intel as an example. Months before their layoff announcement, the company has slowed hiring drastically. By June, more than half of the job postings, mainly for engineering and developer positions, were removed. By the end of July, hiring had dropped to less than a third of its peak.
We know the mood is blue for some people in the job market.
We’ve received plenty of skepticism on LinkedIn when posting positive job data. For many, the good numbers do not reflect their adverse personal experience of seeking jobs for months to no avail.
But here’s our perspective: Stay positive! Many factors are at play, like rates, the election, and the overblown AI bubble.
Bad news sells - we get it. But trust the data!
We've observed encouraging signs: candidates we talk to are busier with interviews and offers, companies are booking us for multiple jobs in one go, median salaries are going up, and the number of days jobs staying on the market is trending down. Things are moving in the right direction.
So, let’s take a look at the data.
As of this morning, 27,733 marketing jobs are available (currently listed and live on company career sites, not job boards or staffing agency websites) in the United States, an increase of 7.1% compared with the same period last year. Among them, 3307 are senior marketing jobs (director-level and above), an increase of 11.9% year over year.
47.3% of these senior positions offer salary transparency. The median salary for senior marketing roles is $145,694, while the median salary for all marketing vacancies is $89,606.
Here are the median salaries by seniority level in marketing:
SVP/Head of Marketing $205,161
VP/Director of Marketing $156,894
Marketing Manager $119,995
Marketing Specialist $70,002
Median salaries for Senior Marketing Positions (directors and above) in major US cities are:
New York $150,010
Los Angeles $144,997
Chicago $135,002
Miami $135,002
Houston $104,998
Dallas $130,000
Philadelphia $130,000
Atlanta $119,995
Washington $139,994
Boston $150,301

Sr. Director of Growth Marketing @ Mozilla
Posted: a week ago
Location: remote
Compensation: $300,000 - $437,000
Firefox developer and renowned open-source biz Mozilla is going through a leadership transition. CEO Mitchell Baker stepped down earlier this year and returned to the position of Mozilla Corporation Executive Chairwoman. Board member Laura Chambers stepped in as interim CEO to run operations until a permanent replacement is found.
Google’s antitrust ruling will likely have a sizable impact on Mozilla’s business. The company’s financial results for 2022 show $510 million out of its $593 million total revenue generated from its Google partnership.
If I were recruiting for this role, I’d target talent who had a proven track record getting into growth marketing & lead-gen gear very rapidly and building a team of specialists to execute. Someone who can cut through and convince management teams to prioritize the right bets and create plans attached to revenue. This is a revenue strategist with a product marketing mindset and solid portfolio management experience. Top places to hunt? Google and Meta are both disciplined and experimental and touch both B2B and B2C. I also like talent from Shopify, Slack, and Zendesk for this position.
If you are a candidate interviewing, emphasize speed (the clock is ticking) and an ability to build out a lead gen engine across a portfolio, building teams of experts quickly (as we like to say: growth is always people-powered)
Director of Product Marketing, Wearables Software @ Meta
Posted: a week ago
Location: Redmond, WA | Seattle, WA | Burlingame, CA | New York, NY
Compensation: $296,000 - $349,000 + bonus + equity
Last month, we talked about the Global Head of Media position for Reality Labs, and it appears that the job is still open today.
There’s always something afoot at Meta’s reality labs. We have to give credit to Mark Zuckerberg's determination to change society through new technology and quickly pivot when it’s not working. That’s growth marketing in a nutshell.
This is a job for a really heavy hitter. Frequently, job descriptions will ask for 15 years of experience for a position at this level, and here we see them asking for 18 years plus, with 12 leading large teams.
We always call out Samsung - and that’s again where I’d be looking first if I had the assignment. Strong product marketing, and success in AR/VR with both hardware and software. Disciplined leadership in a matrix environment who can cast a vision and then relentlessly execute.
You may not have heard of them but I’d also be hunting star talent from China’s Xiaomi - Xiaomi has made major strides in the wearables sector with its value-oriented products, which appeal to a broad demographic. Known for their affordability, including the Mi Band series, they have seen substantial growth. The company’s re-entry into Wear OS watches has further boosted its presence in the market too.
I like that Meta are asking for people who can invent (they refer to wanting founders in the write-up) and are focused on sustainability and organizational health. From what I hear from Meta RL insiders, the chaos of pivoting constantly is exhausting, not exhilarating. So if you’re lucky enough to be interviewing for this position, talk about how you’ve led people and functions in both wartime and peacetime (or how you can dial back wartime anxiety by providing focus and direction)
Director of Seller Marketing @Whatnot
Posted: 2 weeks ago
Location: Los Angeles, CA I San Francisco, CA I New York, NY
Compensation: $240,000 - $285,000 + equity
Whatnot, the largest livestream shopping platform in the U.S., is scaling fast. Headcount doubled over 12 months with lots of senior executives coming on board.
Chief Product Officer Tom Verrilli joined in October from Twitch
Ex-Twilio and Robinhood Tess Singha joined in September as Chief People Officer
Former Shutterstock and Etsy executive Chris Cosentino started in October as VP of Growth
VP of Communications Samantha Faught came on board from Twitch.
VP of Growth Marketing David Mazza only joined 3 months ago.
We’ve featured a Category Marketing role before on the CMO ladder and are big fans of this company.
If we were asked to fill the role, we’d look to steal talent from other platforms and brands that sit at the nexus of fast-moving content/entertainment and commerce.
Tik-Tok might be affected by regulatory attention from the Government, so it would be an excellent space to hunt talent as they have already switched on live shopping, and talent working there might feel less confident in the sustainability of their jobs.
Twitch and Google have recently announced layoffs, so that might be a good place to look. Even people like me who hate Facebook blue still have a long-standing secret addiction to Facebook Marketplace (doesn’t everyone??), so I’d be tapping talent in that Meta team.
According to McKinsey, livestream shopping is especially popular among younger demographics and in Asia. So we’d target marketers who had exposure to those types of consumers and sellers.
When you apply for this role or interview for it - explain how you identify with their ideals - which include a low ego, a growth mindset, and leaning into action.
VP of Growth Marketing (AMER) @ Verkada
Posted: 5 days ago
Location: San Mateo, CA
Compensation: $250,000 - $350,000
The security software sector has experienced a serious boom in the last decade, and we all saw the Crowdstrike headlines and subsequent stock decline recently – but what about physical security?
We had never heard of this company, Verkada, until today, but its funding and customer growth trajectory are really impressive. The company ramped up its marketing function rapidly over the last 12 months—the marketing team size grew by 69%.
In November last year, Richard Rogers joined Verkada from Amazon to lead Global Demand Gen & Field Marketing; Priyanka Srinivasan was hired in August from Qualia as head of Product Marketing; and Adee McAninch as head of Global Channel Marketing also in November.
While the write-up reeks of elitism and exclusive language...
“high caliber teams”
“Strong ability to hire and manage the top 5% of candidates and leaders”
And my (least favorite & most personally triggering)...
“Inbox 0 type personality”
..this is still a juicy job for a seasoned growth marketer who can tolerate 5 days in the office per week with super-type-A people who likely brag about IQ scores and MENSA membership.
What we like about this opportunity is that it invites a hacker/puzzle solver mindset. This mindset can orchestrate a specific result and domain area, plus the impact. Keeping people safe is indeed a purposeful mission the Ladder can get behind.
If we had the assignment to fill this role, we’d go straight to high-performing competitors in the physical security space: Genetec has seen robust growth due to its strategic focus on hybrid-cloud models and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), which are driving demand for their security solutions. Securitas is one of the largest global providers of security solutions, including on-site guarding, electronic security, and fire protection. They have a strong presence in North America, too. Ring constitutes a significant player in B2C, so they might be worth looking at, and NEST (Google) talent, for the same reasons.
